The HH-2 is coming soon! With a 16 x 4 character backlit LCD display, 17-key data entry keypad, encoder with scrolling capability, full signaling support, and complete software programmability, the HH-2 can control every aspect of you layout's operation. Take a look at the picture below of a pre-production model of the HH-2. The menu key gives you access to an easy to use set of menus for accessing lists of turnouts, routes, trains, and other accessories that you may wish to control. Use the up/down arrow keys to scroll through the lists, or use the rotary encoder to scroll. Pressing the Function (F) key gives you access to a shortcut method of operating devices without going through all the menus. The Brake (B) key can provide access to a full prototypical braking control. Access up to 19 function keys directly with only one or two keystrokes.
The display can show you train name and number, throttle setting, actual speed and direction, real-time clock (or fast clock), brake settings, and status of consumables (water, coal, fuel, sand, etc.), as well as the current state of function keys. When in menu mode, a list of turnouts, trains, or routes can be shown, listed by both name and number, and scrollable with a turn of the knob or by using the arrow keys. No need to memorize the address or number of every device on your layout - just look for them by name! The HH-2 will be helpful to visitors who aren't familiar with your layout. Signals on the HH-2 can give the engineer information about the track ahead, even if your layout does not yet have signals physically installed. Because the display on the HH-2 is totally software controlled, it can be configured to show any information that the software developers design into their products. It will never be obsolete, because everything on the screen can be modified as needed to add new functionality. The above picture is just a sample of what a typical screen might look like - actual screens will depend on the software you are running, whether Railroad Operator, software from other providers, or your own custom written software, if you are so inclined. Because the HH-2 interfaces to your computer system, not a DCC command station, it can be used with any DCC or DC system that has a computer interface capability. And, the because the computer stands between the engineer and the layout, the software can implement functions like collision avoidance, and automatic speed limits, to make your layout accident-safe, even with children operating the trains! Look for more information on the HH-2 in upcoming weeks. |
