A variety of plug-ins add power and versatility to your IO-48 or O-48 cards. By selecting the plug-ins for your layout needs, nearly any combination of devices can be controlled. The IO-48 can accept up to 4 output plug-ins and 2 input plug-ins. The O-48 can accept up to 6 output plug-ins. The BD-8T is our newest and lowest cost occupancy detector card. Designed to mate easily with our IO-24 Input/Output card (see picture below), the BD-8T features 8 optically isolated detectors. Just add a low cost diode bridge for each track block, and you have eight block detectors for only a few dollars per block. The BD-8T can make use of the "holdover" function on the IO-24 card to implement a delayed dropout of the detector after a block has been vacated. It may also be used with the IO-48 card, although no holdover function is available on the IO-48 card.
The BD-8T is available with or without screw terminals, so you can solder wires directly from your layout to the card if desired. Available Assembled only.
The BD-8D plugs into the IO-48 to provide 8 blocks of optically isolated, current sensing, detection of locomotives, lighted cars, or resistive wheel sets. An external diode bridge (see accessories) is required as a sensing element for each block. A bank of switches selects a "holdover" time which delays the dropout of the occupied signal for a short time after the block is vacated, as well as compensating for dirty track or intermittent contact. Compatible with AC, DC, or DCC track power. With DC or AC layouts, a small amount of power must be supplied continuously to the track to enable detection. The BD-8D also provides eight direct outputs to drive panel lights, or any other external circuitry which can be driven by an open-collector output. The BD-8D can be also used as eight stand-alone detectors with any other system, by simply installing a jumper and providing a source of DC power. The HP-8 can directly operate high current solenoids (such as Atlas switch machines), DC motors up to 2 amps, and other heavy loads such as incandescent lighting. The HP-8 features fully-protected outputs that include over-current and over-temperature shutdown, as well as inductive load protection. Rated current is 2.4 amps continuous per output, 5 amps peak per output, 7.5 amps continuous total for all 8 outputs combined. The HP-8 can driven by both fixed frequency and variable frequency Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) outputs from the O-48 or IO-48 cards, allowing operation of variable speed DC motors and variable intensity lighting with 96 steps.
The power driver can drive loads up to 1 amp (total 5 amps per IO-48 or O-48 card), with either current sinking or current sourcing. By using two of its outputs, you can drive motors or solenoids bi-directionally. With some simple external circuitry, you can also drive stall motor switch machines and solenoid operated switch machines with a single output, allowing up to 32 devices to be connected to a single IO-48 card or 48 devices on a O-48 card.
The RL-8 relay card offers flexible options for cab relay control or switching very heavy loads up to 3 amps. By installing various jumpers, the card may be used as a single 8-cab selector, two 4-cab selectors, or four 2-cab selectors, all for common rail installations. For installations where both rails must be switched, it can be configured as a single 4-cab selector, or dual 2-cab selector. The RL-8 may also be used simply as 8 individual single pole power switching relays. Multiple RL-8 cards may be jumpered together when additional blocks must be controlled.
The Quad Throttle Card can drive four computer-controlled throttles from a bank of 8 O-48 or IO-48 outputs. The card is available in either standard (1 amp per output) or hi-powered (3 amps per output). TH-4 throttles must be attached to the IO-48 or O-48 via cable, and require a separate power supply. The -48 card supplies the speed and direction control outputs for the Throttle Card. Can be jumpered directly to RL-8 relay cards for use as a Computerized Cab Control system, or wired to individual track blocks to form a Computerized Block Control (throttle per block) system.
The TH-8 Throttle/Sensor card combines 8 throttles, overload protection, and diode bridges on a single card. When driven by an IO-48 input/output card with an attached BD-8 block detector card, the TH-8 provides a complete 8-block computer-controlled throttle and block detection system. Rated at 1 amp output per throttle, the TH-8 is perfect for Z, N, and most HO scale applications. Convenient Molex connectors to tie directly to the IO-48, BD-8, and track. Combine two TH-8 cards, two BD-8 detectors, and one IO-48, and you have a complete 16 block control and detection system for less than $500! And, it's completely supported by Railroad & Co using the "stationary block decoder" option. 8 Point Hi-side (Common Cathode) Driver Card
The CC-8 converts a bank of 8 outputs to high-side drive for use with common cathode LED signals. Up to 100 ma per point output current.
The output test card provides 8 LED indicator lights for testing proper operation of your card and software. Straight-through outputs may be used with certain plug-in devices. One OT-8 is included with our starter kits.
The IT-8 has eight pushbuttons that may be used to simulate inputs from your layout to test card functions and the operation of your software. Dual connectors allow plug in to either input port on the IO-48. One IT-8 is included with our starter kit.
The screw terminal converter allows the plug-in capability of molex connectors and the ease of wiring of screw terminals. Each converter supplies 8 terminals on a plug-in card. Up to 14 gauge wire capacity. May be used on input or output connectors. Not for BD-8 card inputs (see ST-16, above). Available in packs of 6 to convert an complete IO-48 or O-48 card.
