The IO-48 card combines 32 output points with 16 input points, in an
economical package that is packed with features:

IO-48 Input/Output Card
 |
32 outputs, each providing 150 milliamp current sinking
(open drain) power. Connect to external voltages up to 24 volts or power
directly from the card, up to 16 volts. |
 | Supported by Railroad & Co software,
our own Railroad Operator, or write your own customized
control program. |
 | 16 inputs with a choice of filters, each read 9600 times per second |
 | Scanned input mode, which allows up to 512 input points (contact closures)
to be attached to a single IO-48 card. Can be configured to scan from 8 to
512 inputs in groups of 8. |
 | A wide variety of output functions, including support for all types of
model railroad signals, crossing flashers, turnout motors and solenoids, with
variable brightness control. |
 | A variety of easy-to-use, plug-in options allow conversion of output
points for common cathode signals, high-powered
bridge (bi-directional) drivers, relay outputs, and throttle
drivers. Up to 4 different output plug-ins can be used on one IO-48 card. |
 | Available Plug-in card (BD-8D) converts a bank of 8 input points to current sensing,
optically isolated, block detectors. (External diodes required as sensing
elements.) Switch-selectable holdover time included. Direct outputs to drive
panel indicator lights or other circuitry without using IO-48 outputs. |
 | All inputs and outputs equipped with plug-in Molex connectors for ease of
maintenance. Cards can be easily plugged and unplugged for easy swap-out. |
 | Optional plug-in screw terminals convert inputs and outputs to screw-down
connections. Allow the plug-in capability of Molex connectors with the ease
of installation of screw terminals. Also available are flexi-connectors,
with built-in resistors for signals or slow-motion switch machines. |
 | On-card jumpers and switches select interface baud rate (19,200 or
38,400), card address (255 choices), and input polarity. |
 | All inputs and output circuitry is implemented with Integrated Circuits in
sockets for simple replacement in case of accidental damage . |
The IO-48 is now available with a choice of electrical filtering on the
inputs. "No Filters" should only be used on inputs attached directly to
the BD-8 block detector card. "Light Filters" are suitable for most normal uses
such as contact closures, pushbuttons, and optical detectors. "Heavy
Filters" may be required in an environment that is electrically very noisy or
with very long wire runs to the inputs. Also available without inputs for
those uses where only 32 outputs are needed - this option is designated the
"O-32" card, but is identical to the output section of the IO-48.
